Hi, I am Penny -

I have always loved to surround myself with handmade items – the little details left that show the maker's process, items with a patina of age, all of these show a story of a life before me and it is these stories that create a richly layered life full of meaning for me. It is this feeling that fills my heart up and is the reason why I love to create. With this in mind, I set off after school to complete a Bachelor of Design (Fashion) with honours from the Otago Polytechnic, with a focus on creating sustainable clothing and full of wildly optimistic dreams of disrupting the cycles of fast fashion.

Through a period of miscarriages & intense grief, I was doing anything & everything creative to keep my hands busy & my mind distracted. I did it all; gardening, soap making, macramé, doll making, dressmaking and then…. I picked up my husband Sam’s camera & started to take photos of our daughter Aaru & my now overflowing garden. Through experimentation & learning from Sam, who is a food photographer, I came to fall in love with visual storytelling. To do a little dance with the light, the composition & the subject just gets me so excited!
